The transmission was well heard for several seasons in the winter here too,but this B22 season,it has been a disappointing.

Same old problem...severe to moderate interference usually from a broadcasting station on 12080kHz ,completely blocking the signal of VOM English on 12085kHz.It is on rare occasion you can hear the signal clean.So, the problem remains the same.

VU3FBT & VU2DBM had a long one to one QSO on many topics.VU2DBM also explained to VU3FBT working of his tri bander(10-15-20mb) Yagi(six elements) where two of the radiating elements were capacitively coupled(with one coaxial cable as feeding line..)-  and one can check VU2DBM's Yagi antenna on his QRZ.COM page.

VU2DBM also became nostalgic recollecting his amateur radio activities in 1990s from Pathsala beginning with NR60 homebrewed transreceiver and then a  Yaesu commercial transreceiver  & his big loop antenna on four bambo posts in the four corners around a big pond in his residential  campus...and he made QSOs with not only with Indian amateur stations as far away as in Nagpur -VU2AU, in Pune-VU2DK but also DX stations as far  as United States.

VU2DBM also homebrewed a power supply unit & manual antenna tuner as per circuit diagrams that appeared in ARRL Handbooks and he is still using the power supply unit and the manual antenna tuner sometime with his sentimenal Yaesu transreceiver.Now he is using Icom IC 300 with Furuno linear amplifier regularly with his 40mb delta loop and for DXING he is using his Yagi for 20mb/15mb/10mb.And he is the first amateur radio station to be operated from Pathsala Town,his home town wayback in 1990s.Later  he has shifted his station to Guwahati city.

Lets begin with some monitoring observations.
Station KNLS Alaska English Via Madagascar World Voice(MWV):

A latest monitoring update..For several days 0200-0258utc transmission on 13760kHz  is not audible here at my location.Although its 2nd transmission in English is audible from 0300-0358utc is audible here on the same frequency i.e.13760kHz as schedule.The reception overall is satisfactory.

Myanmar Radio on 9730kHz:

Myanmar Radio is yet to resume their morning one hour English transmission from 0230-0330utc on 9730kHz as per my monitoring.Still, local language program on air during that period.

Monitor's QRN Note:

I was surprised to hear VU2DBM on 7055kHz in place of  our local frequency of 7070kHz.But later in his QSO with VU2OWB,he informed due to a QRM on 7070kHz ,he had to QSY to 7055kHz.In fact,he mentioned it several times during his QSOs with others on 7070kHz lsb about noise on 7070kHz he was experiencing.Today early in the morning I had not found any type QRN/QRM on 7070kHz lsb but after 0851ist(0321utc), there was noise on 7070kHz  and same type of noise on 7165-7175kHz & again on 7115-7120kHz.And in my area, a certain type of noise can be audible in the morning every day on 7065kHz which prevents me listening to morning Delhi HF Net.

First Call Of Cuckoo(কুলি) This Year

I have heard the first call of the Cuckoo on this morning ,with dense fog around and very cool mild breeze blowing, around 05:55AM(0025utc). I heard the first spell with short call for a few seconds  and after a few moments,the call heard with slightly longer spell with slight pause.I think it came from the high branch of the mango tree of the front garden of residence just a few meters away.I rushed to the veranda to record a spell of call around 6:00AM(0030utc) on my mobile.

Here in Assam, often hear people saying that the call of Cuckoo signifies the advent of spring.This time the first call of Cuckoo comes still in winter, slightly early.

The three or four cuckoos (black & another brown type colours)  roam around our campus even in winter for a few years now.In our wood adjacent to our house  they finds a safe heaven as there are plenty of trees with seeds of various trees.They often can be seen on the branches of Korobi plant(Oleander),I guess they like to take the fruits of Korobi .Though I heard , it is poisonous to human.

Anyway,I could not resist sharing these photographs of The Cuckoo on our campus in December 2018,which I took very carefully with our now out of order camera Sony cyber shot. HD20.
