Monitor's Special Notes (Khas Tippani)

SLBC Ext. Ser Hindi's  first transmission i.e.0030-0100utc  on 11905kHz  is currently off the air.And another thing I have noticed about the 2nd half of transmission i.e. 0200-0230utc slot  that the program airs old Hindi film songs and programs ends only always with songs of late Kundal Lal Saigal as per my observation for a few years.A rare tribute to a singer from a radio station.And SLBC also aired a special tribute program as a mark of respect to  Melody Queen Lata Mangeshkar  on February 6th (2022) on 11750kHz from 1630utc onwards.

Voice Of Mongolia(VOM) English On 12085kHz during 0900-0930utc

The Same Old Story Side Band Splatter from 12080kHz 

The reception remains the same on VOM English on 12085kHz here.The moderate to heavy interference as  side band splatter from a broadcasting station on 12080kHz during the mentioned time slot prevents me to copy signal of that station.It is on rare occasion when signal strength of that  broadcasting station on 12080kHz becomes weak, you can hear some sort of audio from VOM English.This has been the case for several seasons now.

All India Radio (AIR)External Service Nepali 

On 15210kHz , On November 14th,there was no transmission observed during  0209utc  random check on that frequency.

But later around 0233utc,I found strong signal on air and  AIR Morning News In Hindi was on air.

And again on November 15th, I checked around 0200utc ,I found no transmission on that frequency.But later during my another check on 15210kHz from 0247utc .I found AIR Ext Ser. Nepali back on air with strong signal.

My Latest On Medium Wave

All India Radio (AIR) Dibrugarh: 

Recently a news circulated in print media and Television News Channels in Assam,that broadcast of 5 minute Assamese News Bulletin from All India Radio(AIR) Dirbrugarh( which goes on air on 567kHz in medium wave from 1230utc i.e.6PM Local Time) will be stopped from October 25th onwards.And recently while monitoring here at my place of reception during first week of November,I have found that the news bulletin of AIR-Dibrugarh has been replaced  by 5 minutes of Assamese Regional News Bulletin from AIR-Guwahati from 1230utc i.e.6PM local time.And it is for information the reception AIR-Dibrugarh here in my place(In Western Assam) in the early morning hours and from the evening (specially in winter) has been good.And recently one of our fellow ham VU2EHJ set up a webSDR at his location at Sarupathar in Golaghat District and I enjoyed listening to AIR Dibrugarh on 567kHz via this webSDR during day time when It is possible to copy AIR Dibrugarh.I read somewhere that AIR Dibrugarh was one of the most powerful medium wave station of All India Radio network and in 1970s-80s perhaps, it used to receive reception reports from amateur radio operators/radio hobbyists from Scandinavian countries,Holland etc. 

Anyway, this 5 minutes news bulletin in Assamese was started in mid 1997 and I listened to it from time to time.

Early Morning Medium Wave Radio Signals From Nepal

And I think same program was going on Radio Nepal Kathmandu on 792kHz heard a few minutes later.The signal strength was strong but slightly weaker than Radio Nepal Pokhara.

Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) External Service Hindi:

Today it was not heard here during 0030-0059utc transmission however it was heard on the same frequency during its 2nd part of the transmission during 0200-0229utc.But the signal was not strong and slight co-channel interference and also from nearby frequency there.But yesterday on January 4th, SLBC's Hindi transmission was heard on 11905kHz during its first half of transmission with good signal strength.Today morning might be in skip.There was dense fog in the morning and poor visibility.

No signal Of RRI English To India during 0400-0456utc on 1170kHz In B21 Mystery Solved At Last:

it is because now all two frequencies for this transmission slot has been carrying DRM mode of transmission i.e.both 11790kHz  & 

13720kHz.Thanks for the alert message from a radio monitor  friend of Nepal, when he pointed out to the  fact.Later when I checked  the latest  frequency schedule of RRI English posted  I found the fact myself.

And earlier 25mb frequency was used to broadcast the analog transmission and the other frequency used to broadcast in DRM.

Effective 3rd January, AIR External Service has made a few changes on their schedule as per post in DX India facebook group by OM VU2JOS. The Nepali language transmission now can be heard as per following schedule on shortwave

Via Delhi(100kW)

0145 to 0315utc on 11560kHz 

0930-1030utc on 9950kHz

The reception overall has been satisfactory during 0145-0315utc,but the signal strength is not very satisfactory here in my place during 0930- 1030utc

Radio Philipinas WorldWide English:

Radio Philipinas WorldWide  is currently broadcasting in English on three frequencies 17820kHz,15640kHz and 9475kHz as per their normal schedule of 0200-0330utc.

The reception of on 15640kHz and 17820kHz has been good.But the reception on 9475kHz is not satisfactory,noisy the signal strength is fair usually.

The reception is usually poor with heavy interference as a form of side band splatter from 12080kHz during the entire period of broadccast.And it is on rare occasion you can hear this transmission with less interference and  atleast a few sentences and a few parts of the broadcast contents can be audible.Today I could copy to some extents of the broadcast.

 All India Radio(AIR)'s Shortwave Coverage Of 75th  Independence Day Of India From Red Fort  On August 15th: 

As per posted  frequency schedule  in  DX_ India Group in facebook, I heard AIR coverage of Independence Day(of India) On August 15th on three frequencies(0131-0240utc) on shortwave in English on 13710kHz(Bengaluru,500kW) and in Hindi on 11560kHz and 9950kHz(each 100k-New Delhi).Usually this broadcast  airs live coverage of Prime Minister of India hoisting of National Flag from Red Fort ,Delhi and Prime Minister Of India's address to the nation from 0130 to 0240utc.

But I could not listen to any active  regional shortwave stations of All India Radio (AIR)'s coverage of Independence  in my place this time viz.AIR Leh on 4760kHz ,AIR Aizawl on 5050kHz AIR Gangtok on 4835kHz AIR Srinagar on 4950kHz.

And I heard AIR Jeypore with very weak signal on 5040kHz  and it was difficult to copy the audio contents.

AIR Gangtok (on 4835kHz)was off the air for a long time along with AIR Kurseong(4895kHz) AIR Aizawl(5050kHz)on shortwave.

1.AlI India Radio(AIR) Gangtok on 4835kHz is now frequently heard with severe hum noise.. including this morning(i.e.December 13,2018)..as observed by me from 0240 to 0332utc..4835kHz.

2.AIR North Eastern Service(NES) via Shillong..is not also heard here(including today). for several days .on 4970kHz..& 7315kHz.(perhaps off the air) .as per my monitoring.

3.AIR Aizawl & Kurseong Still Of The Air On Shortwave:
And still no trace of signal of AIR-Aizawl on 5050kHz & 7295kHz. And also AIR-Kurseong is still of the air on both 4895kHz & 7230kHz

All India Radio(AIR) Portblair was not heard here on 4760kHz this morning from my aircheck of 0020utc onwards.

AIR Shillong i.e. North Eastern Service Of AIR & AIR Jeypore was heard on 4970kHz & 5040kHz on its usual signing on time schedule with good signal.

AIR Gangtok on 4835kHz was not heard today as per my several airchecks from 0232utc onwards upto 0307utc.Perhaps it was off the air during the entire  morning transmission starting from 0100utc.

Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation(SLBC) Hindi...0032utc 11905kHz Music-different music-perhaps National Anthem Of Sri Lanka(not sure),singature tune of SLBC..around a few seconds past 0035utc, announcement by lady about station idd & frequency etc..in Hindi..also announcement about next program "Awabahan"-music.

AIR National Service 0040utc 9380kHz(Via Aligarh) Weather forecast & later signing off announcement around 0041utc in Hindi by a lady followed by National Anthem Good Signal 

Radio Romania International(RRI) English 0045utc 7375kHz Signal was fair & noisy  initially..gained strength suddenly around 0047utc, Music,announcement about station idd plus next program..lady host begun the next program..interview with a lady..

AIR-Thiruvananthapuram  0048-0053utc 5010kHz Music-song South Indian Style,announcement by male voice in Malayam ,music-song by male singer.The signal was poor & but improved slightly around 0050utc with the music.Its after a long break I heard signal of AIR-Thiruvananthapuram.

General Observation Of A18 On Some Regional Shortwave Stations Of AIR:

AIR Kurseong on 4895kHz & 7230kHz,AIR Aizawl on 5050kHz & 7295kHz   are still not on air as per my monitoring observation. 

AIR Gangtok is sometimes heard with strong hum noise completely blocking the audio on 4835kHz and followed by a day's or so off the air and again back with normal audio in this A18 season.It might be due to some technical problem on its transmitter.And also a good news that AIR-Gangtok was recently was heard with good signal on its day time frequency of 6085kHz.

All India Radio Transmissions On My Monitoring Radar

Here is a few of my recent monitoring observations of All India Radio(AIR) Stations  at the  morning at my QTH (Abhayapuri) .
The working conditions are...

On the morning September 4th of 2018:
AIR Gangtok was not heard during my several aircheck during 0240-0330utc on its frequency on 4835kHz.
AIR Shillong was noted with good to fair signal on its regular morning frequency of 4970kHz during my monitoring period of 0241 to 0307utc.There was Morning News in Hindi & followed by from  0245utc Morning News in English relayed from AIR-Delhi was aired and again from 0300utc North East News Bulletin in English was aired from Shillong itself.And after station Idd announcements etc...Western Music Program was aired from 0305utc.Today the intensity of audio was improved i.e. modulation of the signal of AIR Shillong.

AIR Hindi External Service Programs was heard by me on 15185kHz from 0314utc onwards  upto 0333utc.The reception quality was initially was good but later weakening of signal to slight extent with fading was observed sometimes but still signal could be comfortably copied.Signature Tune of AIR followed by station Id & frequnecy etc plus Programs announcements etc aired followed by devotional songs,news in Hindi, 0330utc onwards Ram Charit Manas recital etc aired.

On the morning September 5th of 2018:
AIR Gangtok was heard on 4835kHz with good signal  during my monitoring period of 0230 to 0306utc. 
AIR Shillong was heard good to  fair signal strength  with low intensity audio level (i.e.low modulation) once again on 4970kHz as observed by during same monitoring period..

AIR-Hyderabad on 7420kHz was heard with fair signal with slight QRM Side band splatter,fading etc  from 0257utc onwards relaying Morning News from AIR-Delhi followed by News type feature in Telegu etc & station Id announcement in Telegu by male presenter at 0306utc or so .

A Few General Observations On AIR Regional Stations On Shortwave:
AIR Thiruvananthapuram on 5010kHz , AIR Portblair on 4760kHz  are not audible/ audible with very poor reception now-a-days.And AIR-Chennai on 4920kHz sometimes audible with weak signal specially in the evening  mix with strong signal of co-channel Chinese regional station.The signal this  summer  of AIR Chennai's another morning frequency on 7380kHz is not very good here often noisy.
And as reported earlier AIR Kurseong on 4895kHz & 7230kHz AIR Aizawl on 5050kHz & 7295kHz   are still not on air as per my monitoring observation. AIR Bhopal is facing severe to moderate  inteference on 4810kHz but on 7430kHz it is audible with good signal with no intereference. AIR Jeypore is audible on 5040kHz more or less satifactory signal specially in the morning.AIR Jaipur is sometimes audible on 4910kHz however not monitored regularly.AIR-Hyderabad is sometimes audible with fair signal on its another morning frequency of 7420kHz with sideband splatter & noise etc.But nothing audible on AIR Hyderabad on 4800kHz due to severe intereference from Chinese Regional Stations.

Here is a few very latest monitoring observations by me.

All India Radio(AIR) Gangtok On 4835kHz:
As it was observed previously that All India Radio(AIR) Gangtok on 4835kHz sometime heard with severe hum type noise along with distorted audio due to possible  faulty transmitter parts.But for several weeks as observed my me both during morning hours (i.e.0100-0330utc and also in the evening hours(i.e.1130utc onwards) during my random airchecks on 4835kHz I've found good signal of AIR Gangtok free from any disturbance and have been noted with good audio quality. I was about to post about this latest observation...
But around 1350utc in the evening of July 27th (2018) during an aircheck on AIR Gangtok I found severe hum noise and the signal couldn't be copied at all.

However later during another aircheck at 1453utc , I heard AIR-Gangtok without any hum and with clear audio.And Nepali song was on air that time.
Let me observe  AIR-Gangtok on 4835kHz for sometime.

On Other AIR Regional Shortwave Stations :
It is now the only the 2nd shortwave regional station on air of AIR from the North East Region Of India and the most powerful...And the other one is AIR's North Eastern Service from Shillong..(i.e AIR-Shillong on 4970kHz-morning-evening & 7315kHz- day).But AIR-Shillong's signal often suffers from low intensity audio. i.e.perhaps low modulation level plus slighly rough audio..And sometimes remains off the air for several hours.It was not heard  on July 27th (2018) as per my several airchecks on 4970kHz both in the morning & evening.
And still no trace of signal of AIR-Aizawl on 5050kHz & 7295kHz. And also AIR-Kurseong is still of the air on both 4895kHz & 7230kHz.

Here is my monitoring observations of All India Radio(AIR)'s Live coverage on shortwave of Independence Day of India on August 15th(of 2017) & address to the Nation by Prime Minister of India from Red Fort , Delhi.

Usually AIR-Bhupal is on air on 4810kHz during hour.only changes to 7430kHz around 0215-0225utc perhaps...but to give break free coverage of the PM's speech ,perhaps it AIR-Bhupal  was on 7430kHz from the start of the transmission.After getting nothing at 4810kHz around 0115utc aprrox., I retuned my Rx to 7430kHz..& heard regional news in Hindi on air.

Nothing of AIR-Kurseong  on 4895kHz & AIR-Aizawl on 5050kHz,along with AIR-Hyderabad on 7420kHz (like AIR-Bhopal on 7430kHz) was heard. 

There has been no radio audio recorded this time..more precisely for past several   days now.....as I my recording device went out of order & will have to purchase another one...via online shopping. until then no radio recordings from me...

A Few Of My Latest Observations On AIR Regional Stations On Shortwave

Here is a few of my Monitoring Observations on All India Radio(AIR) Regional Stations...on shortwave.

First From our North Eastern Region...

AIR-Aizawl  is still off the air as I haven't found any signal on 5050kHz ..AIR-Gangtok on 4835kHz is now the strongest shortwave station heard in my QTH from our region.AIR-Shillong on 4970kHz is also audible with improved signal quality.

I observed AIR-Gangtok & AIR-Shilllong going off the air for a day & two or a few hours sometimes.

From Eastern Zone..& North Zone etc..

AIR-Kurseong is still off the air on 4895kHz & ...

AIR-Jeypore on 5040kHz is audible with strong signal in the morning.But sometimes its audio gets distorted. 

AIR-Bhopal is also audible on both 4810kHz & 7430kHz with variable reception.AIR-Joypur on 4910kHz is audible with poor reception.

Another interesting development..From South Zone....

AIR-Chennai is now audible with fair signal sometimes good without any co-channel QRM from Chinese Regional Station on 4920kHz for several weeks.

But AIR-Hyderabad on 4800kHs is still facing co-channel QRM from Chinese Regional Station and is still not copiable.But on 7420kHz in the morning AIR-Hyderbad is audible to some extent.

 The reception of AIR-Porblair on 4760kHz & AIR-Thiruvananthapuram on 5010kHz is not very good as the case usually happens in summer. 

But from a few days AIR-Thiruvananthapuram on 5010kHz is noted here in the morning with fair to poor reception quality.with noise & moderate fading  on 5010kHz.

I observed strong peiodic morse code signal on this frequency from time to time in the morning.

All India Radio(AIR)-Chennai was noted on 4920kHz with fair signal and free from co-channel  QRM of Chinese Regional Station this morning here in my location as monitored around 0105utc.

AIR-Thiruvananthapuram on 5010kHz was also noted with poor & noisy signal around same time.

AIR-Aizwal on 5050kHz & AIR-Kursong on 4895kHz is still of the air for several weeks as observed.
AIR-Gangtok was heard this morning with good signal on 4835kHz.

REPUBLIC DAY MONITORING OF ALL INDIA RADIO

Here is a summary of All India Radio(AIR) Stations reception duing AIR's Live Coverage of  67th Republic  Day  Parade from Rajpath,New Delhi on January 26th of 2016  on Short Wave,Medium Wave & FM  monitored from my location at Abhayapuri.

As you know very well that a few of regional AIR Stations specially from North-eastern part of India were not on air regularly but on special occasions like Republic Day On January 26th & on Independence Day of India on August 15th they were on air from a day or two earlier.

This year there was no coverage from AIR-Kohima and AIR-Itanagar .AIR-Kohima is off the air from a long time.As I reported last year there were extensive damage to shortwave & medium wave facilities of AIR-Itanagar due to fire  late September and the repair work might have not been completed.I also haven't heard AIR-Itanagar on its medium wave frequency on 675kHz and perhaps AIR-Itanagar is on the air only via FM .Also I've not heard for a long time AIR-Aizal on shortwave.

All these monitoring was done by Grundig YB 400 Rx with a long copper wire as external antenna.

1.AIR-Shillong was signning on around 0346UTC on its day frequency of 7315kHz.
The signal strength was good with slight hum noise.
