"On Wavescan beginning July 19: 

 99 Years of Indian broadcasting -- AIR, Akashvani, part 1 (1920-1936).  We'll have news about a special QSL card that will be available only for the July 19th edition of Wavescan (NWS908).   The 93rd anniversary of Radio Club Uruguayo.   Mike  Sabin of Trans World Radio will tell us what's left of KTWR in Guam.  And a visit to the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Hanceville, Alabama -- very closely related to the EWTN television network and WEWN shortwave."

 And OM VU2JOS (Jose Jacob) ,from Hyderabad has posted on various BCDX social media platforms that  Indian DX Club International(IDXCI), Kolkata will issue a special QSL Card on the Wavescan program on India on this July 19th edition (program  no. NWS 908) which will be broadcasted first on July 19th and will be repeated throughout the week via WRMI & other relays.

BBC's Annual Antarctic Midwinter Broadcast 2026

As per news circulating in many  BCDX social media platforms, British Broadcasting Cooporation(BBC)'s Antarctic  Midwinter Broadcast for 2026 will be on June 2ist during 2130-2200utc (Sunday) on shortwave on the following frequencies viz.

9460 kHz(via Woofferton), 9510kHz(via Ascension) & on 12070kHz(via Woofferton).

The broadcast will be also available on DAB in UK & also online at

The BBC Antarctic Midwinter Broadcast is a special annual half hour program by BBC World Service for scientists and other staff working at the British Stations in the Antarctic  isolated  in harsh winter condition. It is aired on June 21st coinciding with the midwinter solstice in Antarctica.The program features interviews, music requests, messages to family members & friends etc.The program also includes a specially recorded message from the the British monarch.

My First Ever Attempt On BBC Antarctic Midwinter Broadcast

BBC Antarctic Midwinter Broadcast  for 2018 was heard here in my QTH on three frequencies( as per lastest update posted on mt-shortwave.blogspot.com) 5985kHz & 9890kHz (via Woofferton) and 7360kHz via Ascension Islands on )June 21st (of 2018).

ANT:Cu WIRE 78' Length 30' Height With COAX LEADIN  

Geographical Location of Reception Place(Abhayapuri):

Longitude:26º18´20´´North

Latitude:90º37´50´´East

And the signal was audible on 5985kHz & 9890kHz.And the reception (the signal strength )was better on 9890kHz than 5985kHz.The fading was there on both frequencies.

And on 7360kHz there was heavy noise plus perhaps sideband splatter & very very difficult to pick up the audio contents.

BCDX Monsoon Special From Abhayapuri

VORW Radio International English Via Taiwan:

As per news circulated in BCDX Social Media Groups, it appears that VORW Radio International again has begun its weekly transmission on thursdays from 0900 to 1000utc via Paochung, Taiwan(300kW) relay. The frequency was listed as before in previous B25 winter season as 9705kHz. As per latest information posted , due to interference problem,  the frequency has been changed with immediate effect to 9740kHz.

Let me check the reception quality on 9740kHz during 0900-1000utc tomorrow i.e. on thursday during its broadcast via Taiwan if possible or on future thursdays.

VORW Radio International English  Via Paochung ,Tiwan(300kW) :

VORW Radio International is broadcasting in English on thursdays from October 30th(2025) on 9705kHz during 0900-1000utc from Paochung ,Tiwan(300kW) to  East Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia, Pacific.The reception has been fair to good overall with noise slight to moderate here as per with my monitoring with a long wire in my Grundig YB 400.But on November 20th, I found strong signal of VORW Radio International from 0912utc onwards on 9705kHz with news on air etc as far as I could not remember.I also recorded a few audios of the transmission.There might be slight variations of time of the recordings.I am sorry for that.

Akashvani previously  also known as All India Radio (AIR) Turns 90

Akashvani has completed its  90th glorious years   on June 8th. It was on this day in 1936, the Indian State Broadcasting Service(ISBS)'s name as All India Radio(AIR) by then colonial British Government.After independence, in 1956, the name Akashvani was adopted along with All India Radio(AIR).And now it has been decided to call it only Akashvani dropping All India Radio. Radio Kuwait Marking  75th Year of Broadcasting:

Radio Kuwait began its first broadcast on May 12 of 1951.So, this year it is celebrating its 75th year of radio broadcasting.

I am not sure about present status of Radio Kuwait on shortwave as such. As far as I could remember its English transmission had been stopped via shortwave. And may be a few transmissions in Arabic etc may be on air on shortwave & medium wave. But I am not sure.

BCDX Tips From Keralam

 BCDXING from One Of The Land of Coconuts, Backwaters & Perhaps Rambutan Too:

Noted BCDXER/amateur radio operator, OM VU2JOS, Jose Jacob , now on a visit to his native place in Keralam state ( at Attari,a few km away from Kochi International airport) and he sets up a portable amateur radio station with all possible antennas whenever he visits there for long duration.This time also he has done it. He has monitored some BCDX stations and shared a few intererestng  loggings as before. The RIG used Yaesu FT 757 GX & external antenna used  inverted V for 7, 10, 14 MHz multi band.

On May 28th..

He heard WRMI English Relaying Radio Slovakia International English program via WRMI, Okeechobee9 (100kW) from 0030utc on 15770kHz with good reception.Here is the recorded audio link at 0030utc....

On May 29th..

He was not sure about the transmitter site & its power.

On June 2nd..

He heard Radio Havana Cuba English on 11760kHz with poor reception but the transmission suddenly went off the air at 0048utc.

On June 6th..

He heard WTWW, USA on 9930kHz Lebanon TN,USA-100kW) from around 0100 to 0130utc( signing off in English) with poor reception.

On June 9th..

He observed WRMI transmitter on 15770kHz (Okeechobee9)  back on air after two days absence and fair signal noted around 2340utc onwards.

Also he noted WMLK(USA)  English ( Bethel, PA, USA-100kW) around 0004utc with poor reception.

I like to express my thankfulness to OM VU2JOS for sharing the loggings etc and hope we will get more extotic logs during his visits to his native state.

The Story of Rambutan:

Rambutan is an exotic, sweet tropical fruit mainly grown in South Indian states of Keralam, Karnataka & Tamil Nadu.In  Keralam it has become one of lucrative and widely grown exotic fruits.And frankly speaking, I have no idea about this fruit and I cannot remember seeing it or read it anywhere. OM VU2JOS sent me a few photographs of this fruit and the tree from his locality. And  only then I have come to know about this Rambutan fruit. Thanks OM VU2JOS for sharing the photographs of Rambutan and introducing to this tropical fruit.

BCDX Updates From Abhayapuri

Due to frequent bad weather(thunderstorm-lightning, rains etc) I could not monitor BC Stations as such and also I could not post my monitoring reports etc on my blog too. So, here is a few monitoring observations which I monitored/complied recently.

RTM Malayasia Testing  on 15295kHz:

On May 17th..I might have heard RTM Malayasia in local language relaying from their local FM Radio programs on 15295kHz during 1149-1158utc with fair overall reception with back to back music in local langauage heard. From 1158utc, strong BBCWS interval signal came on air on 15295kHz (1200-1400utc via Oman Relay) and blocking the signal of RTM Malayasia. 

The news widely circulated in BCDX circles that RTM has been testing on its shortwave transmitters on 15295/11885kHz(?) from probably from first week of February ,2026.I also might have heard it on 15295kHz several times with fair to weak signal here but yet to hear it on 11885kHz.

 Down The Memory Line..Voice Of Malayasia in English on 15295kHz Nearly 19 Years Back:

Voice Of Malayasia, the external service of RTM perhaps used to broadcast  in English on 15295kHz , I used to listen to their transmission from time to time.  Several years back, it went off the air for good. On May 10th...

In the evening of May 10th while monitorng British Broadcasting Corporation(BBC) World Service  frequenices viz.17825kHz/21565kHz,  I found considerable noise (appeared to me jamming) from suddenly. Let me first remind you all BBCWS in English is heard here on shortwave as per the following schedule in the evening as per my monitoring.

1200-1400utc 15295kHz (Via Al Seela- Oman,250kW), 21565kHz (via Madagascar ,250kW)

1200-1300utc 17825kHz (Via Al Seela-Oman,250kW)

21565kHz has been beamed to South East Asia but well heard here too.

another transmission to South Asia i.e. beamed to our region but I have not tried as follows:

1300-1400utc  11830kHz via  (Via Al Seela- Oman,250kW).

Anyway , back to my monitoring on May 10th, from around 1216utc onwards suddenly on 17825kHz , during my random check , found jamming type noise, though not so severe.Here is a couple of recordings  on 17825kHz

BBC finally has announced that its long wave transmissionon on 198kHz of BBC Radio 4  will end on June 27th of 2026.

FM BC Update From Abhayapuri

The Only FM Broadcasting Station Audible Now At Abhayapuri..

Akashvani Goalpara on 102.6MHz (1kW) 

Yes, now-a-days) for several months), the only FM broadcasting station audible with good (loud & clear)reception is Akashvani Goalpara on 102.6MHz (1kW) relaying Akashvani Guwahati Mahabahu Programmes from Guwahati. The aerial distance of Goalpara Town(on the bank of southern part of the Brahmaputra river) from my location at Abhayapuri is 19-22km approx. The transmitter is located at the top of Hulukanda Hill on the bank of the Brahmaputra. I heard earlier once in a week for hour or so duration of Akashvani Goalpara might have been on air with their own program produced in their own studio.But I have so far no schedule of it or any confirmation of its weekly program production on air.

For several months now, the reception of Akashvani Kokrajhar on 102MHz(10kW with 70km area reception radius) has been not satisfactory at all after initial a few months excellent reception here at Abhayapuri.I do not know the reason of not so good signal strength plus noisy reception of Akashvani Kokrajhar though aerial distance of coverage is well within the 70km radius area.

Also the reception of Bhutan Broadcasting Service(BBS) on 96MHz has been very poor here for several months now.

And the Guwahati based private FM Stations viz. Radio Mirchi on 95MHz, Big FM 92.7MHz, Radio GupShop on 94.3MHz & Red FM on 93.5MHz are not audible for several months now.And not speak of Akashvani Guwahati Mahabahu FM on 101.6MHz and Akashvani Guwahati Vivid Bharati on 100.8MHz, there has been very poor to not audible at all reception here.

BCDX Information From Abhayapuri

Frequency Channge  On BBC World Service English To South Asia During 0000-0200utc:

On May 8th, BBC World Service English To South Asia  has been found on a new frequeny 11730kHz replacing 12095kHz. I think the transmission is from A'Seela, Oman(250kW). The reception quality has been good during my monitoring from  0039-0159utc in several spells.Its signal strength S9 over 20dB in my RIG Yaseu FT891 with a long wire end feed.

The Long And The Short Of The Story: Monitor's Note

On May 4th, I did not found BBC WS on the earlier frequency of 12095kHz during 0000-0200utc. Later on May 6th too, nothing was audible. I checked the BBC World Service  Global Shortwave Frequency page but no updates posted . My BCDX Consultant  is also busy in a very important social function of his family in his home place .So, I thought not to disturb him for the time being. Then yesterday at afternoon while checking the HFCC(High Frequency Co-ordination Conference) wesbite's latest updated data (May 6th), by checking BBC World Service listing,  I found one frequency 11730kHz( along with another listed) replacing perhaps 12095kHz via Oman. And this morning around 0039utc, when I checked on air on 11730kHz, I was sure. Meanwhile the parallel frequency viz.9590kHz via Tashkent,Uzbekistan(100kW) during 0000-0200utc of BBC WS is also giving us good reception overall as per my monitoring.

As posted earlier in my blog, I observed on 12095kHz time to time heavy noise ,it appeared to me jamming during 0000-0200utc and though due to the strong strength of BBC , here I had no problem in copying. Anyway let me monitor for sometime 11730kHz during 0000-0200utc. Earlier BBC had chamged its frequency 9750kHz  to 9590kHz via Taskhent,Uzbekistan.

BBC Updates Delayed Update From Me But Better Late Than Never:

Let me share a couple of  BBC related news from recent past which caught my attention, which I could not share with you earlier.

BBC World Service will receive additional funding of 44 million dollar over three years from the British Government.I heard this news on March 19th during BBC World Service News Bulletin on 7410kHz around 0101utc onwards. I was recording the audio via the recorder of the mobile phone and got the news unexpectedly on my Yaseu FT 891.

No More Long Wave on 198kHz (via Droitwich,UK) Of  BBC 4 by End of the Year:

 It has been confirmed that BBC will stop BBC 4's  long standing long wave transmission on 198kHz by the end of this 2026. BBC 4(ex Home Service of BBC) airs many programmes for the British domestic listeners on FM & long wave and also now via various other digital platforms.

The Case of Voice Of Mongolia, KBS World Radio on 9785kHz during 1400-1600utc, Radio New Zealand Pacific on 9700kHz during 1100-1258utc...

All my monitoring has been done with both on Yaesu FT 891 & on some cases via my Grundig Yatch Boy 400. A long wire with end feed as has been used as an external antenna for the time being. The udio recordings was done while listening on Yaesu FT 891.

Radio Voice Of Mongolia(VOM) English
On 12085kHz during 0900-0930utc

The Same Old Story Side Band Splatter from 12080kHz 

The reception remains the same on VOM English on 12085kHz here.The heavy interference as  side band splatter from a broadcasting station on 12080kHz during the mentioned time slot prevents me to copy signal of that station.

It is on rare occasion when signal strength of that  broadcasting station on 12080kHz becomes weak, you can hear some sort of audio from VOM English.This has been the case for several seasons now.

KBS World Radio  English To India

KBS World Radio English is facing severe co-channel interference from a broadcasting station on 9785kHz in this A26 season and it is diffcult to distingush which station is KBS World or which is the other station.Here is a few recording links...

There has been barely audible reception of RNZ Pacific here on 9700kHz during 1059-1258utc as per my monitoring.The reception has been very noisy and only in the back ground sometimes audio audible to some extent but extremely difficult to copy.

Radio Japan in English via Yamata is audible with good reception overall here on 11800kHz during 1400-1430utc.

Station KNLS Alaska Via Madagascar

Station KNLS Alaska in English is now being well heard almost regularly via its Madagascar World Voice (MWV) facility during its two transmission to India on 13760kHz from 0200-0258utc & 0300-0358utc.

Monitor's Usual Lame Excuses:

Due to frequent bad weather viz. thunderstorms, lightning with rains, sometimes spell of gusty wind  etc from March onwards it has been a challenging task for radio monitoring and safety of radio equipments & eletrical equipments . And also Mains AC Power Supply provided by our local Power Compnay also often gets disreuped due to break down eletrical supply lines (due to falling down of trees plus branches of trees & lightning strikes on power lines etc ), my typing in personal computers often gets delayed and also some logs etc have to be abandoned. Anyway, I will try to monitor radio stations & post my reports whenever it is possible.
Better Late Than Never!

Here is a few reception cum monitoring updates with audio links on this A26 summer Season of international broadcast effective from March 29th of 2026( upto October 24th of 2026).Due to bad weather(thunderstorm,lightning, heavy rains, storms )  plus resultant eletric power cuts  & other personal problems, I am not being able to write & post  my updates on my monitoring observations on broadcasting stations. I am sorry for that. I will try my best to post them even if its late or some information may be outdated. As better late than never!

All my latest monitoring has been done with both my Yaesu FT 891 & on some cases via my Grundig Yatch Boy 400. A long wire with end feed as has been used as an external antenna for the time being. Most of the audio recordings was while listening to Yaesu FT 891. You can easliy distinguish between recordings from Yaesu FT 891 to  Grundig Yatch Boy 400.Grundig Yatch Boy 400 audio is better than Yaesu FT 891.

BBC World Service English:

BBC English is now-a-days to South Asia is audible during the moring here with mostly good reception overall during 0000-0200utc on 12095kHz via Al Seela,Oman(250kW) and on 9590kHz via Tashkent (100kW)ex 9750kHz . The transmission on 9750kHz was noted with interference plus slightly distorted audio sometime.

Here is a few recordings that I made earlier on 9750kHz.

For a few days , I did not hear any BBC audio there and instead another station was heard.Then our BCDX Guide Cum Honoarary Consultant Respected  OM VU2JOS from Hyderabad alerted me that BBC WS English has already been on 9590kHz(0000-0200utc) replacing 9750kHz. Thanks OM VU2JOS for his update on that.The signal quality of BBC English on 9590kHz has been good (S9 over touching 20dB or more) here in my place as per as my reception observation.

On 12095kHz (during 0000-0200utc) , normally reception has been excellent but sometimes I heard some jamming like noise on that frequency.Here is the two recent recordings on 12095kHz..

Meanwhile, in the evening from 1200 to 1300utc BBC World Service English is being heard on 15295kHz ,17825kHz (both via Al Seela,Oman(250kW) & 21565kHz via Talata-Volonondry, Madagascar (250kW). And from 1300-1400utc the transmission is on 15295kHz and 21565kHz from the mentioned transmitter site.

Radio Philipinas World Service English:

Radio Philipinas World Service In English has been well received here with good reception here with all the three frequencies viz. 15640, 17750kHz & 21720kHz during the scheduled 0200-0330utc transmission slot. Though, for two days from April 2nd, I did not hear any transmission of the station in all three frequencies, it came back on April 4th with loud signal on all three frequencies.

The reception quality on 21720kHz is the best followed by 17750kHz and then on 15640kHz.

From Romania To Abhayapuri With A3E Class Of Emission

Radio Romania International(RRI) English To India In B25 In Analog Mood..A Report 

In this B25 season , RRI English besides its DRM transmission to India during 0400-0456utc on 15250kHz, also has  an alernative frequency on usual AM analog transmission mode (A3E) on 17790kHz.As per their website it has been mentioned due to frequent malfunction of Radiocom transmitters, Radiocom switches RRI programs to a backup transmitter operating on alernative frequencies. Anyway, I have monitored these alternative analong AM transmission on 17790kHz during 0400-0456utc from time to time.The reception has been not satisfactory at all.There has been heavy to moderate  interference QRM from adjacent broadcasting station on 17785kHz.On rare occasions you can listen with clear signal e.g. on March 23rd .....Flok Music program heard  around  0452utc..

Sometimes nothing of RRI-English can be heard on 17790kHz during 0400-0456utc. I am not sure whether only when their DRM transmitter malfunction they shift to this alternative analog frequency.

The almost  same is the case with the another alternative analog transmission during 0630-0656utc on 17780kHz of RRI English. There has been strong co-channel interference of a radio station and that prevents to copy the signal of RRI-English.And it has become totally useless frequency for me here in my place.

The RIG used for all these monitorings was  Yaesu FT891 and external antenna used was  Inverted V dipole Centre feed.And the place of reception was Abhayapuri in Western Assam.

Meanwhile I have stopped sending correspondence with radio stations including RRI English for a decade now after starting correspondence with different stations  from April 7,1997.But Their QSL Cards sent to me plus other materials including envelopes still in my possession.RRI English has sent me many QSL cards (printed) over the years.Here is a scanned version of one of such card both sides.(front first & then back side).The Card depicted a luggage carriage of The Moldovita Train.That Year I guessed RRI featured Romanian Railways as the theme of their QSL Cards.

A26 Updates From Abhayapuri

This  Summer season of International Broadcasting (A26) is fast approaching. It will be effective from March 29th (last sunday of March) to October 24th (last saturday of October) of 2026. And the first schedule for A26 I got of Wavescan Program, the international DX Program now produced in WRMI studio and now becomes on air on sundays to India & Japan via Reach Beyond Australia transmitter site. The schedule was posted as part of their Wavescan Program of March 8th on WRMI Facebook book page during the first week of March.I heard the schedule announced on the program on March 8th of the program on air.

VORW Radio International English Via Paochung ,Tiwan(300kW) :

VORW Radio International is broadcasting in English on thursdays from October 30th on 9705kHz during 0900-1000utc from Paochung ,Tiwan(300kW) to  East Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia, Pacific.The reception has been fair to good overall with noise slight to moderate here as per with my monitoring with a long wire in my Grundig YB 400.But on November 20th, I found strong signal of VORW Radio International from 0912utc onwards on 9705kHz with news on air etc as far as I could not remember.I also recorded a few audios of the transmission.There might be slight variations of time of the recordings.I am sorry for that.

Radio Philipinas World Service has resumed broadcasting on shortwave again from December Ist of 2025 as per the schedule ..

on 9370kHz(alternative 15200kHz), 9925kHz & 12120kHz

Though I missed monitoring  on December Ist but monitored its English transmission on all the three frequencies on December 2nd and found to be good reception overall on all frequencies

As far as  I could remember before going off the air due to closing order of United States Agency For Global Media (USAGM)'s transmitter sites including Philippines, it was used to be called as Radio Philipinas World Wide.Anyway, great to note Radio Philipinas World Service is back on shortwave and I hope Radio Thailand World Service will resume its shortwave broadcast again.

From morning 6:00 AM to 12:00PM and again from the evening 5:00PM to 7:00PM, on 100.8MHz via Akashvani Guwahati Vividh Bharati channel. This Akashvani Guwahati on 100.8MHz  is dedicated FM channel for Vividh Bharati Programmes.Most of the programmes has been relays from Vividh Bharati ,Mumbai.

Interesting Information During Morning Regional Assamese News Bulletin of Akashvani Guwahati:

During September , I heard during Regional Assamese Bulletin (0330-0345utc )of Akashvani Guwahati in the morning (via Akashvani Goalpara on 102.6MHz ) , short information about the locations in different regions(Lower ,Upper & Hill Districts of Assam)  & frequencies of Akashvani FM Radio Stations ,FM  Relay transmitters & also on Medium Wave Stations of Akashvani, by which the news broadcast is audible around Assam. There was also mentioned about availibity of the news broadcast on facebook page airnewsguwahati & youtube channel airnewsguwahati on live streaming.This is the first time I heard about mentioning in detail about other Akashvani Radio Stations like FM Stations region wise with detail frequencies etc as such.Though sometimes they mention about availibity of the news broadcast as  live streamingon facebook/youtube.

I used my Grundig Yacht Boy 400 receiver with just telescopic antenna (inbuilt) fully extended for monitoring these FM broadcasts of Akashvani.

For informations of all, Akashvani Goalpara on 102.6MHz and Akashvani Kokrajhar on 102MHz are the two only radio stations now audible with good reception here in my location.

A few Akashvani Medium Wave Logs:

 My Respected Senior Radio Friend Prof. Hajong (VU3NVY) from Shillong is now on winter vacation somewhere in the land of rising sun of India & near by areas of Assam, he shared me with video clips of recordings  Akashvani Pashighat on 1060kHz slightly off frequency..actual frequency is 1062kHz on sunday evening perhaps & also Akashvani Itanagar on 675kHz (very noisy reception) & also in the  morning yesterday perhaps the recordings of Akashvani Dibrugrah on 567kHz with noisy reception.The receiver he used is portable Tescun PL310et just with telescopic antenna perhaps.Thanks OM VU3NYV for monitoring and sending all the clips. 

Still continuing with Akashvani Medium Wave Station log, after getting the information of Prof. Hajong Sir, I checked the medium wave band here in my place on the sunday i.e.on December 28th...I got excellent reception of Akashvani Pasighat on 1062kHz from 1358utc onwards..here is the audio recorded around 1359utc ...the audio link:

Also noted strong signal of Akashvani Dibrugarh on 567kHz, Akashvani Kolkata Geetanjali 657kHz, Akashvani Cuttack on 972kHz ,Akashvani Itanagar on 675kHz etc etc..

I used my Grundig Yacht Boy 400 receiver with an inverted V dipole for monitoring the above mentioned medium wave broadcasts.
