Heard OM Shin...JE7CLZ....on 14220kHz usb...from Yamagata prefecture...Japan Icom IC 7851 with 4 elements Yagi...with 1kW linear..he made QSO with an Taiwanese ham from Taiwan & then an Indonesian ham..I copied him 56 to 59 with QSB ...several ARs.I also copied.I also heard the two stations with good signal both could not copy their callsigns properly.

Special Mention Amateur Station 9N1CA:

Perhaps,the Only Active HF Amanetur Station of Nepal now on voice mode ( 40mb 20mb etc) ,9N1CA OM Arun Kumar Singh is now on air on HF bands and I can hear him regularly on 40mb specially on 7145kHz lsb and also I hear him on 7065kHz lsb(Delhi Net?),The Belgaum Net on 7050kHz lsb and on 7130kHz lsb (Rajkot net) and our native frequency 7070kHz lsb..Native frequency means here on 7070kHz lsb members of our Amateur Radio Society Of Assam(ARSA) ham members joins there.And it is on this frequeny several months back I heard for the first time heard  9N1CA and another amateur radio operator from Nepal,9N1HA OM Suresh Raj Upreti operating from Kathmandu.

On August 31st, around 1933 IST ,My ham friend from Naharlagun,Arunachal Pradesh  VU3HZT  OB Vijay Sonam did send  me an monitoring alert message  about an amateur station  with callsign S79VU operating on 14225kHz usb.VU3HZT  did give a call to him but S79VU could not copy him.I also could not monitor that evening as I was busy in some other works on my computer.But I was curious about the ..VU part of the callsign.At first I though it was a special callsign station related someway to India.

Later I did extensive search on the net and got the correct information on QRZ.COM & other sources.

VU2IIX OM Shiv Shanker Pandit (from Bengaluru)  moved to Seychelles for two year contract for work. in summer of 2019 and got his amateur radio license there with..callsign S79VU and he operates from Mahe Islands,Seychelles from September end of 2019.

And my friend VU2OWB ,OM Avijit Mandal from Khaspur,West Bengal informed me that he has made several QSOs with S79VU  already.

VU3WTI WIth Wit & Humour & Without Limit:

My amateur station is yet to be ready to transmit due to non delivery of the transreceiver which is still in building stage  due to several factors.Lets hope for better!!! Lets hope for better!!! 

Hope One Day I will be on active cum operating mode... removal of my list of so called "Paper Ham"..Hi Hi..though I do not like the term "Paper  Ham"...at all .there are many other terms in circulation too though off the record informally I guess ..but after all we are all "Paper Ham"..our license were issued in a piece of paper..by WPC..though now-a-days digital format used..still..a paper copy needed for reference..etc..So, we all paper ham.Still I like to be now designated as "Monitoring Ham"...HaaaaaaaH HaaaaaaaH

Here a few monitoring observations I like to share with you all.I listen and check reception of a few radio stations during 0200-0400utc from time to time.

 

Radio Philipinas World Wide English Service:

Radio Philipinas now-a-days broadcast on English from 0200 to 0330utc on 17820,15640 & 12010kHz.The reception has been excellent overall on 17820 & 15640kHz buy 12010kHz sometimes the signal  strength varies from good to poor and lots of noise there..The reception was good on 12010kHz overall on August 18th.

Radio Romania International(RRI) English

0300-0356utc 11825kHz

Usually the transmission faces interference as a form of sideband splatter from a broadcasting station broadcasting on 11835kHz slight to severe from time to time specially when music on air on that station.

But on August 18th..around 0311utc onwards for a few minutes, I received good signal with very minimum or no interference at all.

Radio Taiwan International (RTI) English

0300-0400utc 15320kHz 

RTI English is now free this season from side band splatter from Radio Japan NHK World  in Japanese broadcasting on 15325kHz as the latter has shifted its frequency to other frequency.But sometime moderate to severe  jamming  type noise has been observed this season and makes it difficult to copy the audio contents. But for several days, no such noise observed though signal of RTI English not very strong and comes with fading.On August 18th , I recorded an audio of RTI English around 0315utc..

Myanmar Radio English on 9730kHz:

Still no transmission of  Myanmar Radio in English on 9730kHz as the scheduled 0230 to 0330utc slot is on air.Instead, still local language program on air.

Station KNLS Alaska English via MWV Madagascar

There has been strong consistent signal of the station as before received here in my location.Though weak co-channel interference sometime has been  observed and also silght to moderate side band splatter from a station broadcasting on 13770kHz on rare occasions.

Bhutan Broadcasting Service(BBS) on 6035kHz:

Sorry their shortwave service on 6035kHz is still inactive for several months for all services.Here in my place I sometimes receive good signal of their FM Relay on 90.0MHz and perhaps another service of their local language transmission on 98.0MHz.

The programs on 90.0MHz looks like relay of shortwave service ..0400utc Nepali Service beginning and 0800utc their English Service beginning hour.

AIR Live From Red Fort (Lal Qila)on Shortwave On Independence Day (15th August,2021)

 All India Radio(AIR)'s Shortwave Coverage Of 75th  Independence Day Of India From Red Fort  On August 15th: 

As per posted  frequency schedule  in  DX_ India Group in facebook, I heard AIR coverage of Independence Day(of India) On August 15th on three frequencies(0131-0240utc) on shortwave in English on 13710kHz(Bengaluru,500kW) and in Hindi on 11560kHz and 9950kHz(each 100k-New Delhi).Usually this broadcast  airs live coverage of Prime Minister of India hoisting of National Flag from Red Fort ,Delhi and Prime Minister Of India's address to the nation from 0130 to 0240utc.

But I could not listen to any active  regional shortwave stations of All India Radio (AIR)'s coverage of Independence  in my place this time viz.AIR Leh on 4760kHz ,AIR Aizawl on 5050kHz AIR Gangtok on 4835kHz AIR Srinagar on 4950kHz.

And I heard AIR Jeypore with very weak signal on 5040kHz  and it was difficult to copy the audio contents.

AIR Gangtok (on 4835kHz)was off the air for a long time along with AIR Kurseong(4895kHz) AIR Aizawl(5050kHz)on shortwave.

VU3ZHD (good copy)&  VU3BTP (good copy)was in QSO and suddenly heard breaking signal with callsign of VU3HZT,breaking signal was fair strength but a perfectly  readable signal by me,and later VU3HZT took over (AR) mentioned his location as Naharlagun,Arunachal Pradesh etc.I copied his signal strong here  and a perfectly readable.Later 9N1CA , OM Arun Kr. Singh from Nepal took over and his signal was extremely strong and perfectly readable here.

Monitor's Note:

VU3HZT handle Vijay Sonam is operating from Naharlagun,Arunachal Pradesh with his commercial transceiver and antenna from 14th instant.And this is for the first time I heard him.I was alerted by VU3HZW OB Saqib Ahmed from Guwahati that a station from Arunachal Pradesh might be active.And I logged it today morning.

VU3HZT is the third ham from Arunachal Pradesh after VU2ARJ OM Anong Perme and VU2HQY OM Nangkong Perme.If I am wrong ,please correct me.

Its great to hear J3E  signal from Arunachal Pradesh.I hope in future I will be able to establish my station and able to make regular QSO with him.And I hope also more and more amateur stations will be active from the entire North East Region.

Voice Of America (VOA) Bangla Left Air Wave(A3E) For Good

Finally Voice of America (VOA) Bangla has ended its radio transmission on July 17,2021.For a few years it was only on air on medium wave (1575kHz..its long standing medium wave frequency) after terminating its short wave broadcast.And  a release was posted VOA website regarding this a few days before July 17th about this

Thanks for the link forwarded by Mr.Prithwiraj Purkayastha ,VU3TQD a BCDXER turned amateur radio operator from Jorhat Town from my home state Assam.

In 1980s when I began to tune into VOA Bangla there was two one hour transmission and in the evening it was from 1600 to 1700utc.Later in early 2000s the morning transmission was reduced to half an hour and eventually it was discontinued after sometime.And only one hour night transmission was on air for sometime.And then one hour transmission was reduced to two half hour transmission at night and the 2nd transmission was the repeat of first.And again after sometime VOA Bangla  ended its shortwave transmission and only broadcasted on its long standing medium wave frequency on 1575kHz.And I thin due to several reasons I did not listen to this station for a long time as such sometimes just checked its reception on 1575kHz on rare occasions.Last time I came to know that VOA Bangla was on air on 1575kHz during 1800-1830utc now-a-days.

I listened to the last day of the program besides world news and the program aried voices of presenters broadcasting news..audio clips of famous personalities interviewed by VOA Bangla,,audio clips of various feature programs of VOA Bangla..and the audio clips of listeners Mailbag Program Mitali...

Me & Voice Of America (VOA) Bangla:

It was way back from early 1983 during the one of the most troublesome period of recent political history of Assam along with BBC Bangla ,BBC Hindi ,I,first came in touch with Voice Of America(VOA) Bangla & Hindi Service.And though I lost in touch with those stations after sometime due to  my study etc.Later from 1989 onwards I again begun again listening to VOA Bangla along with other stations.And after April 1997 ,I began to correspond with VOA Bangla Service.Several of my letters were read and mentioned in their Listeners Mailbag Program .."Mitali".The programs contents were  very informative and specially I like their magazine program "Potamac Theke Padha...".I like their presenters dramatic unique style of presenting programs.And in my ears still comes the voices ofVOA Bangla........presenters...Iqbal Bahar Choudhury..Asim Chakrovorty  Ramen Paine .Rokya Hyder Masuma Khatun Dilhara Hasim Segufta Nasreen Queen..Sarkar Kabiruddin  Syed Ziaur Rahman Ashraful Alam  Anis Ahmed...& Iqbal Ahmed,Koffe Khan etc and  from Dhaka with regular reports on current affairs mainly ..Matiur Rahman Choudhury, Amir Khasru Zahurul Alam . and .from Kolkata ..with regular reports Paramasish Ghosh Roy..and many others including a few of the presenters who joined VOA Bangla during the last decade and recently.

VOA Bangla & Assam Connection..:

VOA Bangla's 50th anniversary was celebrated on Janaury 1,2008. They aired a special program marking the golden jubliee year on Janaury 1,2008. I missed the program on shortwave. But I heard about 40 minutes of VOA-Bangla's Live Calling In Programme on January 9,2008 during 1600-1700UTC transmission on 11500kHz about 50 Years of VOA Bangla & Its Fan Club. Before the Live Call In Programme then Head of VOA Bangla Mr.Iqbal Bahar Choudhury gave a brief history of VOA Bangla right from January 1,1958. I was surprised by one key information about VOA Bangla in late 50s-60s perhaps from Mr. Mr.Iqbal Bahar Choudhury himself    that one Assamese person from Assam, one Late Ranjan Bora who had great knowledge of Bangla worked in VOA Bangla for a long time. He settled   in USA & died there.I searched the net extensively on the internet I could not find any details of him.And also I requested  a few of my Radio friends for any information about him but they also could not help me.

Potomac Theke Padda..My Favourite Program On VOA Bangla:

February 16, 2003 I heard the magazine program of VOA Bangla Service "Potomac Theke Padda" in the morning show (From 0130 to 0200 UTC on 25mb) presented by Sarkar Kabiruddin. The program highlighted some Bengali Radio Stations of United States of America. And in the program I also heard brief recordings of their broadcast like station identification announcements, Bengali songs by Runa Lila. The presenter also gave brief history of radio stations broadcasting in Bengali.In the Program, comments of two persons behind Nabin Bangla Radio Station in Michigan State was aired. They didn't have any previous broadcasting background but they have very well connected with print media i.e. newspaper/magazine media. That had helped them in the project. They also highlighted the cost factor of their broadcast. I made a short note on that feature. But I lost track of it. So, please discuss with other dxers/VOA Bangla Service about the program for more accurate details.

A Few Monitoring Observations In Summer of 2021

This is a few observations with log  of international broadcasting stations monitored during this current summer season of broadcast i.e.A21 season during June July 2021 to be more precise.

Radio Voice Of Mongolia English The Same Old Problem...also in A21 Season:

The reception of Voice Of Mongolia(VOM) English during 0900-0930utc  on 12085kHz is the like preveious several seasons, there has been moderate to strong interference from a broadcasting station on 12080kHz as a form of sideband splatter.It is not possible to copy the signal of VOM English during that time.I think the station should move to other frequency above 12085kHz may be to 12100kHz or like that  for clarity of reception.

Radio Japan NHK World Bengali:

Radio Japan Bengali on 15365kHz via Dhabyya,UAE during 1300-1330utc facing slight interference from a broadcasting station on 15360kHz as a form of sideband splatter as observed by me on July 30th.

Bangladesh Betar External Service on 4750kHz:

Like previous season, this A21 season also Bangladesh Betar is still using  4750kHz for transmitting their External Service programs to their overseas listeners.Now the audio quality of their transmission has improved and no problem in copying the program contents as such and no hum type noise observed though intensity of the audio sometimes becomes low when speech is on air.But overall reception has been good. I usually monitor their English transmission from 1230-1330utc and Nepali transmission from 1315 to 1345utc.

Radio Philipinas World Wide English:

The station ,is now broadcasting on three frequencies during its lone English transmission  0200-0330utc, on 18720kHz,15640kHz & 12010kHz.The reception is overall excellent on 17820kHz & 15640kHz but on 12010kHz sometimes the signal strength is not good and also very noisy,but otherwise good reception quality.

Radio Taiwan International(RTI) English on 15320kHz during 0300-0400utc:

RTI English on this frequency slot  for several seasons faced slight to severe interference from Radio Japan NHK World on 15325kHz as a form of sideband splatter.

In A21 season Radio Japan NHK World has moved its Japanese transmission from  15325kHz.And it is clear from any interference and heard several days with good signal.But for past several weeks sometimes  the transmission of RTI English is   facing severe noise problem (jamming?) like the noise you usually observe with BBCWS frequencies.Its not possible to copy signal of RTI English.

On July 28th as for example, the signal was totally not blocked by the noise during the entire one hour period of broadcast.

Radio New Zealand (RNZ) Pacific in English:

Date;July 14,2021 

0346-0402utc 13840kHz (Rangitaiki,100kW?)

The signal strength was fair to good,fading was there,slightly noisy

This is my only lone log of RNZ Pacific so far in A21 season.I have not heard so far RNZ English on any other frequencies.'
