Monitor's A23 Observation Special

On April 2nd, instead of regular All India Radio External Service Nepali transmission on 15410kHz via SPT Bengaluru(500kW), I heard from 0230-0259utc Morning News in Hindi & English (0245utc onwards).Earlier too around 0143utc onwards for sometime,Bangla program was on air for a few minutes instead of inverval signal of AIR and the regular AIR Nepali programs(External Service) from 0145utc onwards.There was no audio later but the carrier was on.There might be some technical errors.I just ended monitoring the frequency just at the end of News Headline at English.

The monitored scheduled of AIR External Service Nepali effective March 26th to October 28th of 2023..

0145-0315utc 15410kHz 

0900-1030utc 9910kHz 11560kHz 15030kHz

and on April 2nd, I could hear the transmission during the afternoon only on one frequency i.e. on 15030kHz(via SPT Bengaluru,500kW) with strong signal strength.

On April 3rd...

But the real fact  regarding the broadcast of has come out before me on April 3rd..around 0229utc..I was monitoring AIR External Service's Nepali transmission, it was on air as I monitored it around 0209utc approx. onwards from time to time.Suddenly, around 0229utc ,I heard the annoucement in Nepali, the news would be followed from Delhi and the morning news in Hindi & English came on air and after that regular Nepali programs followed upto scheduled upto 0345utc.Though after 0300utc onwards gradually co-channel interference observed though slight.

As reported in media that AIR centre in  Kurseong from this April will be producing All Nepali programs iincluding  AIR External Service Nepali Programs in place of New Delhi.

On April 3rd ,I heard On 9730kHz in the morning in local Burmese language after a break of a few weeks.

As I mentioned in my earlier report that I heard a station with weak signal on 9730kHz in place of Myanmar Radio during 0230utc onwards for sometime, it was none other than Voice Of Islamic Republic Of Iran (Radio Tehran) Pasthu Service (0220-0320utc perhaps).And this station causing QRM on Myanmar Radio transmission & let listen to the another recorded clip on 9730kHz around 0301utc..to get idea of the QRM.

Radio Japan NHK World Bengali Service:
It has been announced in the sunday mailbag program "Katha O Sur" (on 21st March ) that as per decision of the authority of Radio Japan NHK World from next new broadcast season effective from 28th of March, Bengali Service will be 30 minutes duration instead of present 45 minutes.From Monday to friday,there will be 15 minutes each of news and feature programs.And on saturdays & sundays ,there will be 10 minutes of news and 20 minutes of feature programs.

And just for reminder for listeners of Radio Japan Bengali Service..
1. shortwave schedule of Radio Japan Bengali Service:
..from  March 28th to October 31st i.e. for A21 season

2.Special 60th Anniversary Program:

It has been reported in facebook DX groups that VOA Bangla Service is on air from 1800-1830utc  on 1575kHz.And on March 23rd ,I got its signal at my QTH at Abhayapuri from 1800utc onwards just after end of another language transmission from VOA.

I have not tuned  into it for many months.Not sure whether it has changed its time or off the air for sometime.Its my pleasure  to hear the voice of Rukia Hyder , Izzaz Bin Hussian and Parmashis Ghosh Roy from Kolkata etc. after a long break.

All India Radio Tura on 1233kHz:
On March 16th,I monitored All India Radio Tura which is located in Garo Hills in Meghalaya State.And I heard its faint signal from 1324utc onwards and also band was noisy as it happens in my place on medium wave in the evening.But later around 1353utvc onwards for a few minutes,I could hear good signal of AIR Tura with covid 19 vaccination infos on air in local Garo language and mentioning the name Tura ,I could confirm its none other than AIR Tura....

Bangladesh Betar on 4750kHz Special Transmission:
Bangladesh Betar on 4750kHz was heard on March 17th morning here at Abhayapuri with fair to poor overall reception with special program on Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's brith anniversary.I heard from 0425 to 0538utc  with several breaks on 4750kHz with music-songs on Banga Bandhu & discussions etc. in Bengali.

The signal though not distorted as it happens during Bangladesh Betar's evening transmission of various languages for its external services on the same frequency i.e.4750kHz.But was noisy with fading etc.

Radio New Zealand Pacific in English is on 9700kHz during 1100-1259utc from the 13th instant in place of 11725kHz.I checked its reception on its new frequency i.e. 9700kHz on February 14th and there was strong to  moderate interference as a form of side band splatter from 9705kHz.It was difficult to pick up the audio contents sometime.The interferece reduced after 1200utc.I have to monitor it for sometime.

On February 16th..

Myanmar Radio was noted with  local language program (Burmese) was noted  on 9730kHz around 0259utc as per my  air check on that frequency for a while.

Strong hum type noise again..AIR Gangtok was not heard on 4835kHz in the morning as per my monitoring & also on its day time frequency of 6085kHz( inlcuding today).for two days or so..Today during the aircheck at 1207utc heard again with strong noise however no trace of audio was heard.

A Few General Observations:

AIR-Gangtok on 4835kHz was not heard during my random air check on the evening.AIR-Portblair on 4760kHz was very poor during the evening.

6.Adventist World Radio Wavescan: 

1530utc 11985Hz (Trincomalee,125kW ?) 

Good Signal initially for 6-7minutes later noise came & also signal faded away ..fair to poor from 1542utc  & later barely audible

1.All India Radio(AIR) Gangtok Special Monitoring Observation:

All India Radio(AIR) Gangtok has been noted with severe hum type noise from time to time on 4835kHz specialy on the morning & also sometimes in the evening.This November as per my monitoring & recording , I've observed it more frequently.Somtimes, the hum type noise disappears after a while and the transmission can be heard without any problem..Today i.e.on November 20th...same thing has happened...

Around 0256 to 0304utc during an aircheck on 4835kHz onwards I heard same noise during AIR Gangtok transmission on  4835kHz relaying Morning News from AIR Delhi & then AIR NE News Bulletin in English relaying from AIR NES Shillong from 0300utc.

Later while another aircheck around 0316utc I heard Hindi flim music on air via AIR-Gangtok on 4835kHz without any hum noise.

Special Note On RRI English:

As per atleast two B18 date bases the 0630-0700utc transmission of RRI English on 15450kHz  directed to India & Australia has been shown on digital mode perhaps on DRM (Tiganesti,90kW)..but as per skd uploaded on RRI English website it is not mentioned as digital mode ..more precisely on  DRM.As per the skd posted only DRM transmission directed to India is during 0400-0456utc on 9820kHz.

Radio Monitoring Sunday Special

On Sunday i.e.October 7th of 2018,I did some radio monitoring in the night in my QTH at Abhayapuri.And here is a brief summary what I heard on the band.

RX Used:Grundig Yacht Boy 400 (unless mentioned otherwise)

ANT:Cu WIRE 78' Length 30' Height With COAX LEADIN  

Geographical Location of Reception Place(Abhayapuri):

Longitude:26º18´20´´North

Latitude:90º37´50´´East

Adventist World Radio(AWR) Wavescan (Sundays), The DX Program Loggings:

1530-1600utc on  15670kHz(250kW) via Nauen Germany  intially received with fair noisy  signal but later the signal faded away to poor strength to barely audible.

And usually the reception of AWR Wavecan on 11950kHz(250kW) via  SPC-NURTS Sofia Kostinbrod, Bulgaria at my place during 1600-1630utc is not so good with noisy reception.But on last sunday i.e.October 7th I found surprisingly good signal on that frequency.

And the reception of AWR Wavescan on 9580kHz  (125kW?) via SLBC Trincomalee, Sri Lanka during 1600-1630utc usually the most reliable &  consistence.And last sunday was also the same...but I observed its audio with slightly low intensity sometimes..(low modulation).As usual there was slight QRM as a form of sideband splatter from a nearby station broadcasting on 9570kHz.

A Royal Bengal Tiger invades an Indian Radio Station..Don't forget to listen...

Voice Of Turkey English was absent on 15520kHz on its normal frequency during several random aircheck for from 1630utc onwards.But around 1632utc while scanning the 25mb I found its signal with good strength on 11765kHz with news read by a male presenter.

And surprisingly later while again airchecking around 1650utc perhaps I couldn't find its signal there.

Special Note:On October 10th also, I did monitor  both 15520kHz & 11765kHz from 1630utc onwards for a miniutes and I couldn't hear any signal of VOT-English any of the two frequencies.

BBC World Service Sunday Sports World:

After A long break of several months finally on October 7th..of 2018 Sunday I heard BBCWS Sunday Sports World ..on 9410kHz from 1630utc....onwards.during an aircheck......The signal was good with slight sideband splatter & noise sometimes.

Radio Taiwan International(RTI) English was noted with good reception around 1648utc on 9405kHz with good signal with slight sideband splatter as a form of interference from BBCWS on 9410kHz.

All India Radio(AIR) North East Update

Here is a few very latest monitoring observations by me.

All India Radio(AIR) Gangtok On 4835kHz:
As it was observed previously that All India Radio(AIR) Gangtok on 4835kHz sometime heard with severe hum type noise along with distorted audio due to possible  faulty transmitter parts.But for several weeks as observed my me both during morning hours (i.e.0100-0330utc and also in the evening hours(i.e.1130utc onwards) during my random airchecks on 4835kHz I've found good signal of AIR Gangtok free from any disturbance and have been noted with good audio quality. I was about to post about this latest observation...
But around 1350utc in the evening of July 27th (2018) during an aircheck on AIR Gangtok I found severe hum noise and the signal couldn't be copied at all.

However later during another aircheck at 1453utc , I heard AIR-Gangtok without any hum and with clear audio.And Nepali song was on air that time.
Let me observe  AIR-Gangtok on 4835kHz for sometime.

On Other AIR Regional Shortwave Stations :
It is now the only the 2nd shortwave regional station on air of AIR from the North East Region Of India and the most powerful...And the other one is AIR's North Eastern Service from Shillong..(i.e AIR-Shillong on 4970kHz-morning-evening & 7315kHz- day).But AIR-Shillong's signal often suffers from low intensity audio. i.e.perhaps low modulation level plus slighly rough audio..And sometimes remains off the air for several hours.It was not heard  on July 27th (2018) as per my several airchecks on 4970kHz both in the morning & evening.
And still no trace of signal of AIR-Aizawl on 5050kHz & 7295kHz. And also AIR-Kurseong is still of the air on both 4895kHz & 7230kHz.

A Few Of My Latest Observations On AIR Regional Stations On Shortwave

Here is a few of my Monitoring Observations on All India Radio(AIR) Regional Stations...on shortwave.

Antenna:Long Copper  Wire(30 ft plus length)..height 20ft Plus  as External  Antenna

First From our North Eastern Region...

AIR-Aizawl  is still off the air as I haven't found any signal on 5050kHz ..AIR-Gangtok on 4835kHz is now the strongest shortwave station heard in my QTH from our region.AIR-Shillong on 4970kHz is also audible with improved signal quality.

I observed AIR-Gangtok & AIR-Shilllong going off the air for a day & two or a few hours sometimes.

From Eastern Zone..& North Zone etc..

AIR-Kurseong is still off the air on 4895kHz & ...

AIR-Jeypore on 5040kHz is audible with strong signal in the morning.But sometimes its audio gets distorted. 

AIR-Bhopal is also audible on both 4810kHz & 7430kHz with variable reception.AIR-Joypur on 4910kHz is audible with poor reception.

Another interesting development..From South Zone....

AIR-Chennai is now audible with fair signal sometimes good without any co-channel QRM from Chinese Regional Station on 4920kHz for several weeks.

But AIR-Hyderabad on 4800kHs is still facing co-channel QRM from Chinese Regional Station and is still not copiable.But on 7420kHz in the morning AIR-Hyderbad is audible to some extent.

 The reception of AIR-Porblair on 4760kHz & AIR-Thiruvananthapuram on 5010kHz is not very good as the case usually happens in summer. 

But from a few days AIR-Thiruvananthapuram on 5010kHz is noted here in the morning with fair to poor reception quality.with noise & moderate fading  on 5010kHz.

I observed strong peiodic morse code signal on this frequency from time to time in the morning.
